about
Inez McComas has written numerous works for groups such as the Cincinnati Ballet, Bell(e) Collective, The Ottawa New Music Creators, Songs for the Cure, and individual musicians including Brad Edwards, Genevieve Clarkson, and Russ Zokaites. In Spinner, Mccomas refers to the process of reporting the daily news. While acknowledging the role that the sound of computers, printing presses, and typewriters play in disseminating the news, she seeks to explore the emotional element (or lack thereof) that remains through the telling and retelling of said stories. Using theme and variations form, each section contains the emotional story (lush harmonies and introspective melodies) followed by the reporting “news-machine” (mechanical and technical).
