about
Russian composer Polina Nazaykinskaya is gaining international attention for her emotionally charged neo-romantic style. Recent performances with the Russian National Orchestra, the Minnesota Orchestra, and the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra are catapulting her music into the mainstream. Pavana incorporates traditional Russian folk music elements with the powerful sound of four trombones. The combination is at once heart wrenching and beautiful. While composing Pavana, Nazaykinskaya developed a particular affinity for the instrument. She has not only purchased her own trombone, but also composed a trombone concerto that has since been premiered by Dr. McIlwain at the American Trombone Workshop.
